Annual Inspections and Recertifications
Annual Inspections and Recertifications: The manufactures we represent require their fall protection systems to be inspected on an annual basis (OSHA defers to the manufacturers on this matter). OSHA stipulates that the annual inspection of an ‘engineered fall protection system’ needs to be completed by a Qualified Person, which NSS certainly qualifies as, and record results. In addition, OSHA stipulates that annual inspection of user equipment (full body harnesses, shock-absorbing lanyards, self-retracting lifelines, etc) needs to be completed by a Competent Person, which NSS installers certainly qualify as also, and record results.
The annual inspection of the engineered fall protection system is to ensure the system is still in good working order. Once the inspection has been completed, NSS will submit a report of our findings and if required, a proposal to perform system repairs to bring the system back into good working order.
Re-Certification Requirements, 5 Years
ANSI requires fall protection systems to be re-certified every five years. In addition to making sure the system is still in good working order, we will review the following items as well:
- Changes in hazards and tasks that the fall protection system was originally designed for.
- Changes in regulations, standards or any other factors effecting the original design of the fall protection system.
- Input from the users utilizing the fall protection system to ensure it meets their requirements for a ‘safe working place’.
Once the re-certification has been completed, NSS will submit a report of our findings and if required, a proposal to perform system repairs to bring the system back into good working order.
